Let Go of the Shoulds!

My “spring break” was a bit longer and unconventional this year.

We didn’t have a week long family trip to some place fabulous. We didn't take exciting day trips or do anything special. What we did was have a busy month.

And during this past month I’ve spent much of my time beating myself up about what I should be doing. We all have a list of “shoulds” we use to judge and measure ourselves. And we also allow ourselves to believe that other people’s ideas of what we “should” be doing is valid.

The “should” thoughts weren’t serving me. They didn’t make me feel better. They were robbing me of the ability to enjoy and appreciate what was happening in my life. I was using them to evaluate my worth and focus on all the things I didn’t do.

I decided to believe that what I did this past month was exactly what I needed to do. I had fun with friends. We prepped and sold a house. I spent time with my son and got his summer plans in place. We enjoyed time at our new house with each other and our friends. We started packing and getting ready for our move.

Did I get to everything on my list? Nope.

Did I have the “typical” spring break? Nope.

What I did was accept and embrace that I was exactly where I wanted to be and that created so much more than doing what I thought I “should” be doing.

What “should” thoughts are you using to judge yourself?

How are they serving you?

Do they create the feelings and results you want in your life?

Make a list of all your "shoulds" and then Let Them Go!

Having a hard time letting go? Let me help you!
